On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, the Moreno Valley City Council unanimously approved two monumental agreements, which includes the hiring of three additional motor deputies and 12 patrol deputies to the Moreno Valley public safety team, as well as three Community Behavioral Health Assessment Team (CBAT) investigators to assist with homeless outreach.

The Council also approved an agreement to add an additional Fire Medic Squad, which will add additional six firefighters to the Moreno Valley Fire Department. This is the largest one-time investment to public safety in over a decade.

“I am proud that we can add more police officers and fire fighters to our ranks to keep our City a safe place to live,” said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. “As Mayor, public safety is a top priority for me, and these new deputies will strengthen call response times and bolster Moreno Valley’s first-rate service well into the future.”

The agreements renews existing contract services with the Riverside County Fire Department and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department through 2028. Since incorporation, Moreno Valley has contracted with CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for its fire and police services.

The agreement comes on the heels of other City investments, including a historic $50 million toward pavement rehabilitation as well as additional City maintenance teams to maintain Moreno Valley’s beautiful parks, streets, and trails. These initiatives follow the priorities identified in the City’s Momentum MoVal Strategic Plan.

Funding comes from the City’s General Fund due to additional revenues realized from strong economic activity and new business openings throughout Moreno Valley.
