                                                                                     Infrastructure




                                                        •   MVU  added  80  Megawatts  of  electrical  capacity  with  the
                                                            completion of the Kitching Substation in 2017. This new substation
                                                            provides enough capacity to satisfy existing and future electrical
                                                            demand due to the recent development of more than 8 million
                                                            square feet of new industrial space.

                                                        •   During  fiscal  year  2017/2018,  the  City  began  the  process
                                                            of acquiring Street Lights from Southern California Edison.
                                                            Additionally, MVU will upgrade the High Pressure Sodium lighting
                                                            technology used in approximately 11,257 street lights to state of
                                                            the art LED fixtures.   The LED lights will reduce maintenance
                                                            costs and provide better light patterns on both residential and
                                                            arterial streets throughout the City.  The LED Retrofit Project is
                                                            scheduled to break ground in December 2018.


                                                        •   To improve service reliability MVU has designed two important
                                                            infrastructure improvement projects.  The Alessandro and
                                                            Heacock Crosstown Ties will install over 23,000 linear feet of
                                                            12kV backbone equipment.  Design of the two crosstown ties was
                                                            completed in September 2018 and construction is scheduled to
                                                            begin in February 2019.  Once put into service the new distribution
                                                            infrastructure will allow MVU crews to more effectively identify
                                                            and isolate service disruptions, and restore power to customers
                                                            more quickly.

                                                            have a thorough understanding of agency processes. Providing
                                                            accurate information is critical; to do so, we work with staff,
                                                            consult supervisors, conduct research, and keep up-to-date with
                                                            industry best practices.
