City Shelter Kicks Off 14th Annual Iams Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Campaign

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter is participating again this year in the 14th Annual Iams Home 4 the Holidays Animal Adoption Campaign. The adoption campaign kicks off on Monday, October 1, 2012 and continues to January 2, 2013. The purpose of this campaign is to find loving homes for companion animals during the holiday season. This year the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter’s goal is to place more than 650 pets in lifelong loving homes.

The kick-off event will feature adoptable pets at the “Pet in the Park Adoption Day” Saturday, October 6th. The “Pet in the Park Adoption Day” will be located at Moreno Valley Community Park, 13380 Frederick Street at Cottonwood Avenue, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This community event will include a dog costume contest, a variety of local vendors and Weenie Dog Races. Pre-registration for the contest and races is encouraged. To pre-register, call 951-413-3280.

The first Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption drive began in 1999 when the Helen Woodward Animal Center organized 14 San Diego area shelters to work together finding homes for orphaned pets during the holiday season. By the end of the 6-week drive, 2,563 orphaned dogs and cats were waking up each morning with their new families.

“This campaign gives us another opportunity to encourage people to provide a loving, caring home for animals that need someone to care for them,” said Steve Fries, Moreno Valley’s Animal Services Division Manager. “Home 4 the Holidays has been very successful in placing animals and we look forward to many more animals becoming pets of concerned Moreno Valley residents this holiday season,” he said.
