City Hall Plaza Renovation
The Civic Center entryway was renovated to provide better access to all City Hall visitors and reflects the City’s commitment to meeting requirements under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). The existing plaza entry area had been damaged by tree roots and the landscaping required a high degree of maintenance.
Funds used for this renovation were restricted to capital improvement projects, and could not be used to provide City services (such as public safety programs or other operations). Funds were captured through savings in another capital project at the Civic Center plaza, along with Facilities Construction Funds approved in 2013.
The improvements included removal of damaged concrete flat work, installation of new interlocking concrete pavement with colored concrete bands, planters, concrete seat walls, landscape, and new area lighting. The project also included relocation of the new trash enclosure to improve traffic flow and visibility in the parking lot.
Environmental friendly features were incorporated throughout the design. The existing lighting was replaced with energy efficient, long lasting lights. The new landscaping will reduce maintenance costs and water usage, by using drip irrigation and drought tolerant plants. The concrete was replaced by porous materials which allow rain to pass through instead of running off.
Construction began in mid-February and ended end of June 2014, and was completed on schedule and within budget.
